Big head...big hats

I am an accessories junkie. I love to add hats, scarves, or necklaces to my outfits. My grandmommy was an accessories junkie so I "get it honest." There is just one problem with my love affair with accessories...I have a big head. I have big hair. I love hats, but constantly have troubles finding hats to fit my head. They are usually just a tad too tight and I want to scream every time I see a hat label that says one size fits most. My husband is probably sick of my hat sizing complaints that he hears every time I take him shopping and try on a few hats. When I traveled to Florida recently I had a stroke of good shopping luck. I found a big white beach hat and two fedoras. Three hats! My summer hat looks are set...now I need to get my winter hats settled. I found this great chunky knit beanie pattern from http://a-friend-to-knit-with.blogspot.com/ while knitting web surfing one night.
I used some more of my Spud and Chloe yarn I purchased at the Black Mountain yarn shop. Isn't this a fabulous color? I love how it turned out. It is simple and cute. A perfect hat to throw on when I go out on cold weekends this fall and winter.

Knitting Shopping Adventures

I went on a wonderful knitting/yarn adventure last weekend. My friend Addie turned me on to the knitting books and blog of Susan Anderson (listed in my blog roll to the right). Itty-Bitty Hats is such a great little treasury of hat projects. Too, too cute!! Anyway, I have been wanting to try out the Spud and Chloe line of yarn she often uses and blogs about. I am still a little leery of buying yarn online without feeling it and seeing the colors firsthand. None of the yarn shops in the Tidewater area currently carry it, so naturally I took my husband and daughter on a yarn expedition to the Black Mountain Yarn Shop in Black Mountain, NC. 

This yarn shop also carries Debbie Bliss yarn, another great designer associated with a yarn line, so it was a double win for knitting/yarn shopping. We were visiting my in-laws in NC and taking in some of a nephew's travel soccer action in Asheville, NC. We stopped in Black Mountain, shopped, and then had a delicious handmade pizza lunch before taking in the soccer action. The owners of the knitting shop were very nice and wound the yarn for me. I love the colors I selected. Now I just have to figure out exactly what I am going to to do with them. I am thinking hats...or a sweater...or who-knows. It was a beautiful day for an adventure!
